Indulge in Homemade Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudgesicles: Your Ultimate Summer Treat
Cool down when the weather gets hot with these irresistible Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudgesicles, which taste remarkably like you’re eating a peanut butter cup on a stick! Fudgy, decadent, and delightfully messy – they embody everything you desire in a perfect summer dessert. This recipe isn’t just about beating the heat; it’s about creating a memorable treat that combines two beloved flavors into one frosty delight.

Beyond my passion for creating delicious recipes, I also have a deep love for unique finds, especially when they can enhance my food photography. One of my favorite weekend activities is exploring local thrift stores. I’ve been a dedicated thrifter for as long as I can remember, long before the trend went mainstream. There’s a distinct satisfaction in finding gently used items, whether it’s clothing or, more recently, specific props for my culinary creations.
While I still appreciate finding a great secondhand shirt for a fraction of the price of new retail ($5 compared to $50!), lately my treasure hunts have shifted focus. My primary mission now is to discover interesting food props for my photography. The first section I always gravitate towards is the kitchenware aisle. It’s a goldmine for unique plates, bowls, and serving dishes that add character and depth to my recipe photos. I recall one humorous instance where a cashier, looking at my basket filled with an assortment of mismatching plates, asked what I intended to do with them all. If only she knew the magic these pieces bring to my food blog!
I also enjoy browsing antique shops, though I often find their prices quite steep. Beautiful plates I’ve admired there often come with a $20-$30 price tag, which makes me wonder about their true value versus the “antique” premium. Is it the history, the craftsmanship, or simply the designation that drives up the cost? While I adore the aesthetic appeal of antique items, I’m less enthusiastic about their corresponding prices. However, every now and then, I stumble upon a true gem at a reasonable price. The elegant oval plate featured in these photos is a perfect example. It was even on sale, a rare occurrence for an antique store, offering a fantastic 30 percent discount. That was a definite win in my book!
As I meticulously planned the styling for these delightful Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudgesicles, my gaze kept returning to that particular oval plate. I knew instinctively that it was the ideal backdrop for this recipe, adding a touch of rustic charm and sophistication to the frozen treats. The contrast between the rich, dark fudgesicles and the vintage cream-colored plate felt just right.
But enough about my thrifting adventures and beloved plate – let’s shift our focus to the stars of the show: these incredible fudgesicles! I experimented with homemade fudgesicles last year, and they were a hit. This year, however, I was determined to elevate them to an even higher level of deliciousness. The brilliant idea struck me to infuse them with creamy peanut butter and then layer the mixture to reveal a beautiful, distinct peanut butter stripe. The result? A truly unforgettable treat that captures the essence of a classic peanut butter cup, but in a refreshing, frozen format. It’s undeniably fudgy, wonderfully decadent, and yes, a little bit messy – but in the best possible way!

There’s something inherently nostalgic about enjoying a fudgesicle. For me, it’s a taste of childhood summers, a tradition I’ve carried with me through the years. I can’t remember a summer without having at least one. In fact, now that I’ve mastered the art of making them at home, I probably consume more as an adult than I ever did as a child! The simple joy of a frozen chocolate treat on a hot day is unparalleled, and when you add the creamy, salty-sweet goodness of peanut butter, it transforms into an even more extraordinary experience.
This summer, I’m on a mission to create several unique fudgesicle variations, and these delightful peanut butter ones are just the beginning. Imagine the possibilities: classic chocolate, fruit-infused, coffee-flavored – the list goes on! But starting with this peanut butter version feels right, as it perfectly marries two universally loved flavors. Homemade fudgesicles offer immense benefits over their store-bought counterparts. You have complete control over the ingredients, allowing you to choose high-quality chocolate, natural peanut butter, and adjust the sweetness to your liking. No artificial flavors, no preservatives – just pure, unadulterated deliciousness.

To achieve that familiar, classic fudgesicle shape, I highly recommend using a dedicated popsicle mold. The one I used ensures they look just like the ones you’d pick up from the grocery store, adding to that nostalgic appeal. The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. Instead of laboriously preparing a traditional ice cream custard, you’re essentially whipping up a really quick and easy pudding. This method saves significant time and effort without compromising on the creamy, rich texture that makes fudgesicles so satisfying.
Because the mixture is designed to be thick, almost like a pudding, you might find it easier to spoon it into the molds rather than trying to pour it. This ensures an even distribution and prevents any mess. The layering technique is crucial for these Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudgesicles; it’s what truly sets them apart and visually communicates that wonderful peanut butter surprise hidden within. The distinct stripes not only look appealing but also promise that delightful flavor combination in every bite, leaving no doubt that these are special peanut butter fudgesicles, not just regular chocolate ones.

Cool down when the weather gets hot with these Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudgesicles, which taste like you’re eating a peanut butter cup on a stick! Fudgy, decadent, and a little messy – everything you want in a summer dessert.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk, room temperature
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cocoa powder
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, add the peanut butter, sugar, cornstarch, salt, and milk. Heat over medium heat until the peanut butter melts and the mixture starts to boil, whisking often (it may look a little curdled but that’s ok – keep whisking as the mixture gets hotter and the peanut butter will smooth out).
- Once boiling, cook it another 1-3 minutes or until the mixture thickens. Remove from the heat and whisk in the vanilla and butter until smooth.
- Pour 1/3 of the peanut butter mixture into a heatproof bowl. Reserve.
- In the remaining mixture, whisk in the chocolate and cocoa powder until melted and completely smooth.
- Fill your popsicle mold with half of the chocolate mixture. Freeze for 5 minutes. Add the peanut butter mixture then freeze for another 5 minutes. Top with the remaining chocolate mixture and then add popsicle sticks. Freeze until firm, roughly 4-6 hours (preferably overnight).
